Staying in Mayenne
Discussion
Bonjour!
We'll be staying at the Wife's parents place in Lassay Les Chateau for a couple of weeks in August. We've been a number of times before and seen quite a bit of the area.
I'm looking for ideas for days out as I want to make the most of the time. Any suggestions for destinations that can be reached in a day. There's only the two of us, and we like all sorts of stuff, except extreme sports! Never been wine tasting if there are any good places for this. If at least one of the destinations could accidentally have a car based activity (good museum maybe?) that would be a bonus, been to Le Mans loads of times, so not there.
Cheers in advance.

What kind of journey time are you thinking of?
You're probably around an hour or more North of the Loire valley, where there are Chateaux and Vignobles (vinyards) galore. Tours is a good city visit, with an old medieval quarter (and sadly hordes of loud yanks). Just to the East of Tours is a sparkling wine area called Vouvray - well worth a visit for tasting and buying.
Closer in, La Fleche has a half decent zoo. Angers is probably worth a visit, but haven't been yet. You are of course not far from Mont St Michel and there's a tidal barrier at Dinard. From memory Dinan has an old quarter too.
Sorry, don't know the area of Mayenne, just everywhere around it

I'll be interested in any replies that you get, as we have bought a place near Mayenne (Ceauce) and havent found a whole lot to do around there. That is part of the attraction though, in fairness, as the area is very unspoilt and has very few tourists. I would have said that Lassay is the highlight, but you know that! I would have also said go and see Le Mans, but you've done that too!

It's small world, my in-laws also have a house in Ceauce, on the main street, but is not habitable at the minute. One in Sept-Forges too, but that's for sale. Have you been to Bagnoles? That's nice for an evening out and picturesque in the day, but probably a 20-30 minute drive from you. I can recomend the Cafe de Paris for a nice meal, we always go for the last night before we come home.Gassing Station | France | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
