first french speeding ticket
Discussion
Bonjour mes amies. Well only been here for about six weeks, and picked up my first speeding ticket on a mad rush to Toulouse airport a couple of weeks ago. 109 kmh in a 90 kmh zone on the peripherique. 45 euros and nil points.
Can't complain a that it would have cost lot more has we missed the flight.
Joyeux Noel.

Now if you had applied for a duplicate licence in the UK on the basis that it was lost and then exchanged the original UK licence at the préfecture for a french one, then you could drive on a UK licence in France and a french one in England. Not that I would condone that of course.....

bah! just got my first speeding ticket as well( in my life) - late to catch the plane at Nice just before xmas. Thing is I definitely slowed down to 110 for the camera at Cagnes sure Mer, so there must of been a mobile unit around at the same time. Can't complain a that it would have cost lot more has we missed the flight.

Ho hum..
I'm planning a motoring (well, vino collapso) holiday later this year. What's the latest on inter police relationships re speeding tickets?
A mate of mine got at ticket last year en France that might have merited more than a few notches, but he paid the fine on the spot and that was the end of it. But you do hear rumours now and again of them being posted to the dvla.
Of course the trick is not to go faster that the permitted.

That rumour is about as valid as being timed between péages - absolute rot - for the moment. It appears that from 2010 though the french and english computers will be talking to each other and that from then on your points will be "awarded" back in the UK. Now whether this means you will pay a fine here in France or back in the UK isn't clear but I guess here, but how the points will work is anybody's guess. For example, take drink driving. Here a couple of notches over the limit warrants 2 points on a graduated scale but in the UK a minimum of a 12 month ban. The system is much more driver friendly here except where severe excess speeds are involved when the police seize the car ans sell it for state funds now. They can't do that for foreigners at the moment but they have seized cars and impounded them for months until the court case though. we are soon to have european driving licences they tell us so all bets will then be off.

I thought this was to apply to Italian, german, Belgian, Swiss, Austrian, Polish etc for 2010 but the UK did not want to play ball with there demands? this is what i read recently, could be wrong I guess, where did you hear your info?Pvapour said:

From the local paper actually. Here at Le Mans the french are fed up with the english playing the fool especially around Le Mans time and it was specified a few months back that as from 2010 they will have finalised the process of sorting the sharing of information out. I also heard it from the local gendarmes.lowdrag said:

I got a 90 euro fine on my way back home !, what happens if found with a detector ?
€750 and the confiscation of the detector is normal. Cash on the spot or car confiscated until the fine is paid. Sometimes, but not always, they will take you to the nearest bank but it is unlikely that with one card you'll be able to get that amount at one time. Either have several cards, a wodge of cash or even - leave the bloody thing at home!Gassing Station | France | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
