Camera Detectors in France

Could someone with a knowledge of the Code de la Route comment on the above discussion on the Sat Nav forum?

I'm thinking about buying a Garmin and upgrading to a camera location subscription to keep me in the clear whilst in France - as I say on the discussion, I think GPS systems in France are OK, detectors are not. Is this correct?

Correct.
GPS are all OK (even with an overlay map of 'radars fixes')
Radar detectors are not. (and they can confiscate your car for it)

Go to www.gpspassion.com and sign up - on the french version of the forum, or directly via www.radarsenfrance.com you can have a free download of the speedcam database. For 10euros (IIRC) there is a more frequently updated database sorted by speed.

Both databases include a list of potential mobile speedcamera sites. I've always found this pretty accurate!
