Thinking of visiting France this year with the chim. We did Normandy and Brittany In 2006,have also done Beaune/Burgundy and the french alps a long time ago,Our holiday period is tied to Aug 8 to 18th any ideas or suggestions on accomodation, just the two of us.We enjoy the countryside, small villages, good food etc, in otherwords a bit like North Yorkshire but en France!

Hello, may I suggest an unashamed plug of our Chateau in the Loire Valley. Not only is it a nice place to stay but the region has many glorious sites and gastronomic specialities galore.
I have only ever seen one speed camera in our area so the long straight roads or twisty forest roads are a drivers dream!

Thanks Jason,Our First choice was the Loire Valley, then I thought lets go further south around the Languedoc region but the distance/time available and cost of getting there loses some of its appeal, will have a chat with my wife about it,

With a comment such as "like North Yorkshire"... The only place to go is Brittany but you've already done it...

If you're ready for something a little expensive, I'd advise to go down to Orlean and follow the Loire down to Nantes staying in a different "Relais Chateau" hotel every night... In Saumur, there is one which is "Troglodite" (Cave house)....

Jason, we are travelling from Montcoco ( near Argenton sur Creuse) up to Fontainebleau over the Easter break, we will pop in, if that's ok, for a look at the Chateau on the way up....
