After much debating re swapping my Jag XFR for an Aston or Conti GT and the inability to go to the UK, I decided to keep it and get it registered in France.

I applied for the Quittus Fiscal on December 31st and got the confirmation number emailed to me just 4 hours later, pretty amazing.
I then got a professional to do the registration on the ANTS system for me. To my surprise, just 13 days later and it's all done.
Makes me realise that it really does depend where you live in France as to how the system works.
I'm well pleased.

Next job, get my licence exchanged, when it becomes possible.

Not sure if this is correct but I heard that licence exchange now may require you to take a French driving test. Will be interested to hear if that is so.

It used to be that if you exchanged your UK licence for a French one in the first year of residency then it was a straight swop but beyond that time limit then had to sit the theory part of their driving test.

I've never heard of that in the last twenty years. I exchanged mine after about 5 years of being here with no problems.

Re driving licences, there is a bit of an issue at the mo due to the WA causing the expiration of agreements between the UK and most EU countries re exchanges, another "benefit" of the WA. The UK embassy in Paris is in discussion to resolve this for France and hopefully we will be able to get our licences exchanged via ANTS later in the year.

If you don't mind me asking ,who did you get to do the ANTS registration for you? Since moving to France in Nov last year, I've bought a couple of classics, one in Spain and one in Italy and I'm finding the process of registering them a bit painful. I still have two other cars in the UK that I want to bring over.

When I imported my Disco, I used Cartaplac who did the whole thing for me for 29€ - absolute no brainer, plus they did plates cheap as well saving me about 12€ so it only really cost 17€

I 'd like to be proved wrong, but I suppose they'll attract VAT and duty? Does anyone know the score? Whisper it quietly but I've been thinking of bringing over a c*r*v*n.

A caravan is the worst thing to bring over, they can need thousands spending on them to get the plumbing and gas to meet French normes.

When an acquaintance took their UK caravan to DREAL they were only interested in the lights / brakes / suspension / ID, the guy never set foot inside the van....

If it has a CofC I don't think it has to be checked, and there are no CTs for caravans. I enquired of several UK manufacturers, and the only one to bother to reply was Bailey who responded right away and said that they would send me a CofC for any post 2000 van FOC if I gave them the serial number. So it would be a Bailey, obviously, despite promising to be like towing around grannies sideboard and Hyacinth Bucket's withdrawing room.
It's interesting to see how much the market has been changed by the pandemic. Nosing around french caravan forums, I found someone who had bought a van in 2012 for 500€ less than the similar model and year was for sale now....
I get the impression that people are finding their long forgotten caravans when they're strimming their long grass and sticking them on Leboncoin for silly prices. The OK ones have been selling too.

Thanks. I'll probably persevere with the current two cars myself (after spending €350 to get a COC from Alfa!!!!), but will look at Cartaplac for any future attempts.

That's what worries me. One of the cars, I've owned for 8 years so curious as to what value they would use to calculate any duties/VAT.

PS. CARAVAN!!!!????

On the subject of sourcing CofC's, very kindly ANTS did not recognise my £100 CofC from Land Rover UK, so I had to spend another 240€ on one from Land Rover France.
The difference??
LR UK - the manufacturer refer to the vehicle as a Land Rover Discovery II
LR France say its a Discovery 2 ( even though it has a badge on the back that says Series II ) so it effectively cost me another 240€ to translate a Roman II to an Arabic 2 in order to satisfy good old ANTS
Gotta love French bureaucracy :-)

You could of saved the €100 by going to Landrover France in the first instance.
As always it's a learning curve living here.

It was the irony of the Manufacturers European Certificate of Conformity for the vehicle that they built, tested and gained certification for being turned down because the french system has been formatted differently - also this was well before Brexit so nothing to do with that. As you say, a steep if not exponential learning curve in the early days.....

I understand the steep learning curve!
The next bit of fun I'm having is ANTS saying I can't register a car unless it's insured and the insurance company saying that they (and any other insurer) are only able to insure a French registered car!

I wonder whether the French model has a 2 or II on the car. I guess any system would rely on the data being the same.
There'd be similar problems registering a UK Citroen Synergie, that was badged Evasion in France, not that you'd want to...

Oh, don't worry, it's a II, I mean, you didn't actually expect the french system to be logical did you? wobblewobble

Not true.
Go to another company.
