Everything shut down here too but it's too hot to go anywhere anyway! Assumption Day celebrates the day she was 'assumed into heaven' apparently, this doctrine was dogmatically defined by Pope Pius XII on 1 November 1950 so no birth certificate needed. Presumably no death certificate either if she was assumed.....…………….
All our supermarkets have had signs up for over a week saying 15/8 closed @ 1230 / 1300, plus all the adverts on the radio for the DIY sheds and other shops saying Ouverture exceptionnel 15/8
But apart from that and the calendar, and it happening every previous year, absolutely no idea it was happening today

It's the calendar that changes every year, Easter Sunday is the same every year - the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox.
It's amazing though, when we first started going to France in 1980s everything was open on Sundays and Holidays, now ?
And where I live in Ireland everything used to be shut on Sundays, now it's the best trading day in many shops.
I saw a notice in a car wash last week in Germany giving the prices but saying not allowed on Sundays.
