It finally happened. Got pulled for speeding this morning, and lost my (UK) licence for six months.

It's a fair cop, and all that, but Mrs Doofus is not going to let me forget this in a hurry.

Fortunately, I'm back to Blighty in a few days, and wasn't planning on being back for five or six months anyway.

Does not compute!

If you've lost your UK licence, why is being in Blighty a good thing?

I understand that. I'm just not aware of how that relates to driving in the UK - if you're licence is confiscated how can you drive in the UK?

Honest Q!

The French took it away, so he can’t drive there. He will be fine here as they currently have no power to ban him here.

Thanks - just googled and I see you just apply for a replacement in the UK

I'm only banned in France - they have no jurisdiction in the UK. They will send my licence back to my UK address in a few days.

They had a long conversation between themselves about what will happen after Brexit, and whether the rules had already changed.

I tried to persuade them that because I paid the fine in Euro, and I'm a UK citizen, my money isn't actually legal tender any more, and they had to send it back to me in the UK along with my licence.

They didn't buy it, but it gave them a good laugh...

What speed were you doing and which type of road?

N road. A section of 800m of dual carriagrway in mile upon mile of single carriageway.

I overtook a dawdler, only to see three more ahead of him. So I decided to get past them all before the dual carriageway ended.

By the time it did, I was doing 136 in a 90 paperbag

Les flics were hiding in a bush. Literally.

It's always blooming dawdlers that end up being a cause for an over enthusiastic overtake. Had one myself last week.

It was my fault, and I won't claim otherwise. What made it worse was that, after Mrs Doofus took over driving, she insisted on sticking to the speed limits. First she moaned that 30km/h is really slow. Then she complained that 50km/h is really slow. Then she pointed out that "fk me! 90km/h isn't even 60 miles per hour!"

It was a loooong drive home...

Had almost exactly the same scenario last November except I was on an empty road and just enjoying myself in my VX220! They were hiding behind some mesh fencing and caught me some hundreds of yards up the road. I was doing 147 kph but they very kindly wrote 139 on the paperwork as they said I was safe and that makes a difference as I believe over 140 they can crush your car and all sorts of nasties. So, French licence confiscated and then I had to go for a medical, then a letter to say I was banned for 4 months and then 3 months later another letter saying it had been before the tribunal and I had been fined €350 + another €32 court fee, I have also been told to expect 4 points! Like you, my fault entirely but what a lot of faffing, loads of new photos, trips here, there and everywhere, more forms, endless queuing but I have been back on the road since March so all is well again!!

Just to close this one off; my license arrived in the post this morning (to my UK address). I got three months.

For someone with a UK licence be careful about obeying the ban period. I helped someone at the tribunal (believe this - 180mph on the motorway in a Ferrari - the fastest speed on record in that department!) and he got a two year ban on driving in France. A year later he took the ferry to be met by the BiB who turned him around and sent him straight back home.
