I have heard rumours of new CT checks coming in next May, in addition to the current checks.

Anyone know anything ?

As far as I can find out it's:

1. Engine management light on means a failure

2. Testing the windscreen/front window tint to allow a maximum 30% light blockage

3. No visible oil leaks

No 3 is going to be tricky for my Elan!

I can't be sure but I thought I read somewhere that the 2 month repair period is being changed. Meaning that if it's a dangerous fail you get a different/ shorter period to get it fixed.

If thats all, then I can sleep easy except for the"no oil leaks". With a Rover V8, it always looking to leak one or other of it's fluids !

After 16 years I am still try to get it absolutely non-drip !

Whilst on the subject, I have been able to get my car registered but at the CT he told me that I may need to get a lambda sensor plug welded to the exhaust. Do they actually remove the plug to test or can they shove the tester up the exhaust like they did back in the UK ?

Sounds odd, in 16 years and with 4 cars on the road at the moment it has always been an enema job, straight up the exhaust!!

...and for my 1991 Alfa Spider! Luckily I has just got through its CT with "Défaut d'étanchéité" noted as advisories on the engine, gearbox and differential.

They're implementing checks are per EU regulations:

-More items checked than before (probably longer and more expensive CT as a result).

-In addition to the two current failure/warning notes on the CT, there will be a third for significant issues which have to be resolved within 24 hours otherwise the vehicle isn't allowed on the road (except for attempting an other CT later on). Currently an issue can be resolved within 2 months for a contre-visite, time during which the vehicule is allowed on the road.

There is much hearsay here and there, one CT engineer recently told me a car would have to be loaded onto a trailer/truck if it failed on a major item (which is total bull as it happens).

But do we have any idea of what those extra items are and how they will be applied to older vehicles ?

I have finally managed to get my Cobra Replica registered and am now mildly concerned that any new checks may not be achievable on an older car !
