Hi All,

We will be driving down to Locoste in Provence / Luberon (South East) for a holiday later in the year (3rd time to the area for me), this time for the outward journey the mother in law (to be) will be with us and my partner who is likely to be a little grumpy being circa 6/7 months pregnant and sat in a car for so long! I'm looking for some advice on nice places to stay over after long ish days of driving. The mother in law to be will be going on to Italy after France and we will start the journey back just the 2 of us, allowing 2 nights for the return leg to UK, 1 night on the way down. Rough plan is below but there are gaps and alternative suggestions are welcome!

- Day 1 - Early Ferry from Dover circa 7.30am - arrive in France French time about 10.30am. Drive on autoroutes until about 4/5pm - should see us to around Macon after comfort stops (of which there will be many with a pregnant other half!). Now we have stayed in Macon before - but is there anywhere else which is near to the AutoRoute which is worth a look instead? Small town preferable as we are only after a decent meal, few drinks, wander around and breakfast next morning and wont have the energy or time to go on a mad exploration.

- Days 2-9 no rush perhaps leave late morning - only 3.5 hours driving to the destination of Lacoste. Stay here for a week.

Day 9 - leave around 10.30am - where to? I've been to Annecy before but other half hasn't, wouldn't mind going again, it is quite pretty, plus route Napoleon for part of the way... or anywhere else? Keen to have break from some of the autoroutes on way back as we have more time.

Day 10 - from previous destination to where?

Day 11: Need to be in Calais by around 4.30pm to do some shopping before getting a late ferry (perhaps 6.30pm) back to UK.

This was the route we did last year, stopping at Macon, Cahors and Langais. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Oxford/Dover/Cal...

Thanks in advance.

Try Castel de Très Girard - it is a Chateaux et Hotels Collection 4-star hotel just off the A31 in Morey-Saint-Denis between Dijon and Beaune. Smack in the middle of some of the best wine country in Burgundy. I stop there frequently driving between the Eurotunnel and North Italy.

Really comfortable hotel, great restaurant with excellent wine list, secure (free) parking and normally much the same cost as one of the better Ibis hotels. Staff are pleasant and speak English if you don't speak French.

Thanks Peter, appears to be a good stop off hotel, I will take a closer look, from Google Street view the surrounding area looks very inviting!
