Received a speeding fine for €45 in the post yesterday for 72 km/h in a 70 km/h limit back at the start of July!! I know the road well and the only camera is way back up the road in a 50 km/h limit. Handily the paperwork gives the exact coordinates of where the offence took place so I went out and checked it out in person and on Google Earth. It turns out that the location is the driveway of an unusual house that I know well so I can only assume that it was one of those unmarked cars with a camera parked in the drive. It couldn't have been someone with a hand-held gun as he would have easily been seen as it's very open just there, I'm very careful on that road as it's a succession of 50 and 70 km/h limits and I'd already been done earlier this year for 54 in a 50 km/h limit at the aforemention camera further back (that was a moments inattention when speaking to a passenger, DOH!!). The road in question is the N21 between Limoges and Aixe-sur-Vienne at Isle. My own fault but annoying all the same as I don't remember exceeding the limit at all and I use that road at least once a week.

72 in a 70, isn't there any degree of tolerance in France?

Are you sure it is for speeding? I can't find any 45 euro fine for speeding on any of these:

https://www.french-property.com/guides/france/driv...

http://english.controleradar.org/speeding-fines.ph...

Obviously these sites could be out of date.

For fixed cameras, up to 100KM/Hr they deduct 5 KM/Hr from your actual speed, over 100 KM/Hr they deduct 5%. It's probably the same for mobile speed checks, if so it would be shown on the fine.

Here's the updated fines: https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroi...

Single penalty points are restored after 6 following months "clean".

Ah, so the OP was actually doing 77 in a 70, the tolerances are already deducted.

Sorry, yes it was 78 km/h then adjusted down. The old Kangoo speedo is incremented 10, 30, 50, 70, 90 etc. so I should have noticed that I'd strayed over. The worrying thing is that I've used that road at least 8 times since that day so I might be getting some more if he's been there more than once. Will be ultra cautious from now on though and will be on the lookout for parked Renaults and Peugeots with dark windows although I've no idea what type of vehicle it could have been until I see it again.

What about "radar mobile mobile"? I.e. the sneaky little buggers with onboard gatsos that can flash people in either direction, as they drive?

The one nearer Limoges got me a few years ago - 53 in a 50 limit according to the proces verbal which I filed. Again, just a moment's inattention. That is a pain of a road - half the time you're not sure which limit you're in. I'm sure you know you can go the longer way round from the Limoges ring road at Le Vanteaux - but there's a 90kph camera on that one too. Bon chance...

Yes, we do use that route occasionally. The other way to our destination is to go east via Chalus, Les Cars, Nexon and Le Vigen (where there is also a camera) and into Feytiat that way but it's about 15 mins longer but a lot less messing about with speed limit changes. By the way, that house where I got zapped, if you know the N21 well, is the one that's set slightly up off the road and has a frontage that looks a bit like a chinese pagoda.
