Hi Peeps,

Bought my old customised Harley to France with me, rather than have it sit for more years in a shed in damp England.

I am here for most of the year, so have time to give it some tlc and get it back on the road for summer. Problem is, in France motorbikes aren't MOTed so I cant get an MOT over here, and also it is UK registered and insured.

So, do I-

1 try to get insurance in France for a uk registered bike without an MOT,
2 reregister it here (if that's possible for a Q plate, but it is likely I will want to use it back in the uk.) or
3 find an insurer in the UK that will take it on without an MOT on French roads for a summer?!

Or, just polish it up and watch it shine and wait for next trip back to uk with the van:-(

Ta chaps,

Steve

There is no CT at the moment for motos.
Funnily enough the one of the biggest pushers for the bike CT to be implemented in France is Dekra, the German company who have their mitts in the French car CT business as well as that in Germany and who see the CT for bikes as a huge income stream to be tapped.

Yes just had a bit of a read up on the ct situation. Could be a legal requirement in about 2022. So don't hold your breath.

I would be inclined to get the bike French insured and change the direction of the dip beam. Then use it.

If you want to get in French plated you may have to get a conformity certificate for the bike.

Be aware that there is a 100hp limit on the power of motorcycles in France, so if your HD is a big brute you may have a real problem to get it legally imported.

That is no longer strictly the case, all Euro 4 bikes with ABS can now be full power and Euro 3 bikes with ABS can be full power also if the Minister signs the relevant bit of paper. Any other bike can be imported and homologated (registered) providing you jump through the relevant series of hoops and if appropriate get it restricted to 106bhp.
To the OP, take a look at www.bikeclubfrance.com, register and there's loads of info to help you along.
Hope this helps, just waiting for the Euro 3 signature so I can register my Mutley at full power :-)

Thanks for the help chaps. Will check out that forum, see if I can get on the road sooner rather than later. It's been smashing weather here in south France today, want to get her polished and used ASAP!

AXA were happy to insure my UK registered bike, I did advise them the plan was reregister in France, but it was many months before I actually did it.

I'm pretty screwed it looks like.

Cant (or rather it is very difficult to) register a Q plate in France, so I have to return it to UK for its mot.

Oh for the days of dodgy MOTs....!

Only other option is to ring it.... Not good options.
