Happy New Year,
Southern Spain lost SKY satellite coverage last winter and a Sat dealer down there recommended

They were very helpful getting me set up, their helpline was actually helpful, and they discounted the first year without asking.
It works well with both SKY Go and BBC iPlayer. My biggest weakness is my 2mb connection here in France.

I use www.overplay.net and use their DNS server package which is very cheap and works every time. We use it on the TV, iPad, iPhones etc
Tunnelbear works well for me as a VPN or you could use a DNS service like Unlocator. Both OK but there are lots of others.

Hi Tony. I use VPNUK all over Eastern Europe and it has never failed me. I get the whole Sky pack I pay for in the UK on Sky Go, plus all the iplayer stuff. It will even allow you to play the National Lottery as it uses UK ip addresses. I couldn't live without it now and the online customer service is superb. It's £5.99 I think, but well worth it. I'm no techie and it was easy to set up.

Thanks YRR, and I'll look them up. My problem relates to running Sky at home and my router really. I can use VPN on my computer but not via my router. I took out a subscription with Strong VPN who then, after a while, tell me I need a different - more expensive - package and a new router. Thanks very much, but no thanks. My computer shows a UK address via them, but the Orange (French) router, which runs telephones, French TV package, and internet, shows a French Wi-Fi IP address on the portable computer. So Sky, iPlayer et al won't let me download or watch anything because I am abroad. I went to see Orange and saw a techie who said that their Sagem 2 router can't download a VPN package, so I am back at square one. If I buy a new router, will it mess up my phones and the French side of things? I don't know, and frankly technology is getting harder for me to cope with now. Answers on a post card!
ETA:- Had another email saying that if I want to use Sky or the Beeb I can run two routers, but that would mean that while watching catch up TV my telephones would not work.

VPN works fine on my iPad, as well as my laptop; they just sent me a link to install .
I use Orange in France however I have never used their router LiveBox, but if it works OK on your PC, I cannot understand why it does not also work when your laptop is connected to the router by WiFi.
Sorry if you feel I gave you a bum steer, earlier in this thread.

No bum steer at all, just a learning curve. Perhaps other people can learn from my problems. As above, it seems there are two sides to the Livebox, one connected to the telephone and TV but while I have the VPN on it tells me that my internet connection is not via the Livebox but direct. The VPN I guess has installed an internal internet router which is on the PC. So, the Livebox continues in its own sweet fashion using a French IP address, which shows up on the laptop. Incidentally, Strong VPN want nearly $300 for an ASUS router with their programme already installed and I can get it for under 100€ here and then get them to install the software for me. I wondered about connecting the Sky+ box to Orange direct, but I'd still have the IP address problem. Hey ho, on we go. More anon.
I don't have Internet TV from Orange, but do use an Asus router bought from England, when in France. I take it that you have installed the same software on the laptop as the PC?
I am back in Spain again where there is a Russian VPN used to bring multiple TV channels to the apartment, but I can still connect to StrongVPN anytime I want from either laptop, or iPad at the same time, for catchup TV etc.
Can France Telcom help you resolve the issue? They seem very relaxed when I tell them I do not use a LiveBox.

I've been using https://www.my-private-network.co.uk in France, works with all my UK services
Well, we are no further it seems. The problem isn't the VPN, but the Livebox. Now the Livebox runs the phone system as well, so I can't change the internal IP address I am told since it will mess things up. Also, and I don't know why, when I turn the VPN on it messes up the Windows Live email system. So, I'll just have to live with things as they are. All it means is I can't have access to old TV programmes.
You cannot change the IP address of the Livebox, it's dynamically allocated by Orange and changes each time you restart your internet connection.
To do what you want you would need to be able to install a VPN or Proxy on the Sky box and I'm pretty sure that is impossible.
What might be possible, although I've not tried it, would be to turn a Laptop or PC with a VPN or Proxy and proven access to the iPlayer etc. into a WiFi hotspot and then connect your Sky WiFi to that.
