Dog Friendly Hotels around Lyon
Discussion
The good lady and I are driving down from Eurotunnel in Calais to Nice with our dog, a golden retriever.
We need to arrive in Nice during office hours, to be able to meet up with the estate agent who has the key for our apartment.
Rather than leaving London, taking the tunnel, and trying to get there late the same day, we figured we'd look at stopping somewhere around Lyon for a night and having a leisurely run down to Nice the following day.
How easy will it be to find accommodation for us and our dog? Are there any chain hotels close to the main roads? We don't want to go too far off the planned route if we can help it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

If you just want somewhere to sleep overnight en-route, many chain hotels will accommodate your dog with you for a small addition if you tell them in advance. Some hotels in both France and Spain have rooms with hard flooring reserved for dog owners, as do Brittany Ferries on some ships.
Googling pet friendly hotels in France will bring up some choices.
We usually stay in Ibis hotels on overnight stops (not Ibis Budget or Ibis Styles which are rebadged Étaps). Ibis are like Travelodge and similarly it is luck of the draw if you get one that has been recently refurbished or not. They are often sited near busy routes on the outskirts of towns and don't require long diversions, and there is usually on-site parking, sometimes enclosed. The continental buffet breakfast is on an "as much as you want" basis. The evening grub offer is poor, but there is often a Courtepaille restaurant nearby (same chain, 10% discount) that offers "cooking" that is similar to a chain pub in the UK. I won't comment on whether that is a good thing or not, but it is all extremely convenient .
Incidentally in France owners cannot refuse bookings that include domestic pets for furnished self-catering accommodation.
