Hi guys,

Came across the vehicle tax changes in the UK, is this going to make life difficult when we buy cars in England, as we'd have to drive back without vehicle tax ?

Thanks !

Not an expert, but is the change not just that tax discs don't need to be displayed (ie. it's all digital/anpr now)? In which case it's irrelevant

Hi,

Well I don't know. My dad was telling me that cars would all need to be taxed under your own name, with UK insurance.
The cars I've bought in the UK up to now have been taxed before purchase, and on my French insurance, but it seems that won't be possible any more. I don't know if the fact that the car is leaving the country is a good enough reason not to tax it...

Technically, I think you will be expected to tax it.

The new rules automatically refund the previous keeper with any remaining full months' 'tax'. The new keeper is required to 'tax' the car from the 1st day of the month in which the car was purchased.

Effectively, DVLA get 2 months tax every time a car is bought/sold. That must have been an oversight on their part, surely biggrin

It seems a silly system to me: I've just SORNd one of mine, had a cheque refund but still have a tax disc that expires next year. It's not a problem if you're in France, but if you have several cars in UK, it's just another thing to remember which ones are taxed, and until when, and which ones are on SORN.
