Liberty Tag - how strict are the height restrictions?
Discussion
Hi
I have a Tag for the French Mways which is for use with Class 1 and 2 vehicles. No issue with cars however I have just bought a motorhome and the Tag is limited to 3.5tonne plus 3m in height.
I am aware that they do not tend to worry about the weight however I am trying to find out how strict they are on height. My MH is offically 3.05m so 5cm over the height limit. However fully laden she may well be lower by a cm or two.
I have no issue paying the correct levy and would get a Class 3 tag if they did them for private use (which they dont).
Is there anyone in the know who can advise on this? Do they use sensors? If so is there any tolerance (plus xx% or xxcm perhaps)?
Cheers

It says on the documentation with my Vinci tag that "if a lane has a height board then its for vehicles under 2 metres" and "lanes without markers are accessible to all vehicles (the class of vehicle is automatically detected)". What happens if your camper is detected as over the height limit I don't know but someone may. They may shoot your tyres out.....
We have used our 'car' tag with an Ifor Williams horse trailer which I guess is a similar height.
We had no problems using the 'any height' barriers, and the trailer seemed to detected ok by their system. When the bill cam through, it only cost us around £35 extra on a trip to the S of France and back. Actually expected a good bit more than that.
Not sure how it all works for detection of height, but had no problems whatsoever.

Thanks folks
If its just a question of paying some extra I wouldnt have an issue with that at all. My main concern is that the 'computer says non!' and we have a queue behind of irate Frenchies!
It doesnt help that we are going in August when it will be busy
Herdwick - is there anyway you could measure the horsebox height at all? Or let me have the spec so I can check it out?
Cheers
