We are going to Provence and Côte d'Azur. How much of a difference are the crowds between the last 2 weeks in Aug and the last in Aug and 1st week in sept ? We would have all accommodation booked.

We would probably prefer to go the last 2 weeks in August. Journeys between stops will be probably only 2 to 3 hours without traffic jams once we are in the area.

Is it that big a step Change in the masses leaving at the end of August?

AS a rule of thumb, the French holiday from 15 July-15 August. In the South it will still be busy but not too busy as Paris has gone home.

Many thanks, we are flying Merc E class from Blighty, avec a glove box full of cash for les gendarmes with lepton cameras. And one of those motorway passes.

Will be going to Ilse sur le sorge and Eze, etcetera. Will try a bit of the route napoleon.

least it will swallow the roads with comfort. Im sure if you look in the Le mans threads there the web sites for the tolls where you can get a tag. We stay just outside St Maxine on the d52 les canniebere which is a lovely road when the French are in bed plus just had new tarmac laid. plus going the back route to St Tropez is fun when you try and follow a GT3 in a Audi tdi
