As above really. The car was sold to a Frenchman by the uncle. Uncle now passed away and nephew is buying back the car. British insurers won't help, but does anyone here have any ideas?

Not really sure what the problem can be. I would have thought the only problem would be with a uk registered car?

I assume you only want a few days cover to repatriate. I use Credit Agricole and they reimburse pro-rata for any unused period.

Alternatively, ship it back on a trailer and uk register upon arrival.

1. They don't have a tow bar

2. They would need to rent a trailer.

3. All they want to do is collect the car and drive it home, change the headlamps, MOT it, and get the old plate back. Surely somebody could help? I bank with Credit Agricole so I'll ask there, so thanks for the tip.

I was thinking of getting a contractor to move it on a trailer, rather than DIY.

One of the options on this site is a car trailer, but there are other companies going back and forth with multi vehicle trailers, if you search on the Internet.

Re Credit Agricole, they may need a property address in France, but maybe the deceased had one?

I'd have lent them my trailer if they had a tow bar, and it suits because it is wintering in the UK with the XKSS so perfect for them. I have asked my insurer if I can add the car to policy pro tem so we'll see, but thanks for your advice.

Do you know any local garage owners to borrow their French trade plates?

The panic seems to be over, but thank you all. They have somehow managed to get insurance in the UK. I'd treid here and there but no real joy.
