I'm driving up through Rouen next week to the UK.

I know there was a bad fire there which is still causing a diversion on the main route through, does anybody know how bad the diversion is? Is it worth avoiding completely?? What sort of delay can I expect?

Thanks in anticipation of any updates...

It is bad but try the alternative via Yvetot.

It takes you to the west and north of Rouen and is quite a pretty route. You also pass an Intermarche fuel staton that seemed well priced. Yvetot also looks quite interesting in its own right with a Saturday market, if that suits.

Its not a bad diversion, I always get lost in Rouen,so any diversion makes no odds to me.

After going through Rouen about 30 times I still get lost. I think I've only got through unscathed once or twice. Do I get lost elsewhere - rarely!

My advice as above Yvetott, keeps you away from Rouen

Thanks guys. My plan b is past le Havre which is not much further so I think I'll stick with that as I do enjoy driving over the pont de Normandie, but thanks for the intelligence smile

Thought I would bump this thread as I am heading down via Rouen this coming Sunday.

Are the problems through there sorted now or can I use that as an excuse to head a little north and over the bridge? Heading south of Tours for an overnight stop so I'm not desperate to add miles but would rather that than add hours.

Any idea?

It will be summer 2014 before all is sorted. They have a new bridge to build and are still in the design phase.

I can confirm that the diversion is still in place, so treat yourself to the drive over the pont de Normandie driving

Mme Le Pop (La Pop?) did the route on Monday...

Thanks for that. I got it all programmed into the sat-nav last night.

Any idea how much time it adds going through the Rouen diversion. Just for interests sake.

Bit difficult to say, but the diversion probably adds about 1/2 hour, but it also depends to some degree on where you are going and time of day etc... In my view it's worth it just for the drive over the bridge!

I went though it last Wednesday at 14.00 and it added 30 min to my journey.

just follow your normal route in and you have no choice but to go right , drive down the road and go left over the next bridge , then left again at the lights and your sorted , without wanting to appear rude your just taking the next bridge down the road , its a doddle , i do it a few times a year and never have problems appart from the traffic is a little heavier .

Drove the return leg yesterday (southerly) but completely missed the diversion route and ended up going via Le Havre and pont de Normandie. Poorly signposted, but a more interesting drive with nicer scenery...

I do Calais to Bayeux regularly and can confirm that the PdN route is far quicker than going via Rouen even prior to the diversion.

What a royal clusterfk!

Was fine heading South to the Loire, just did the French thing and ended up turning right at the closed bridge and then used another bridge and the SW exit to the A13.

Heading north, we decided to use the inner ring road and join the northbound A28 there. Except you can't! Tomtom took us through some errrr 'interesting' areas of northern Rouen, but in total it added around 10 mins to our journey. Tomtom traffic showed the diversion to be royally jammed up. I think Saturday afternoons are the time to avoid the diversion when going to Calais.
