got back from skiing in chamonix and within a week received what looks like a speeding ticket - 98kph in a 90 on the way to Geneva! Obv French cameras dont give 10%... grr v annoying as i was coasting down to the limit before the windy part.

Do i need to reply or pay? iirc its 80 euros or 45 if payed in xx days...

Just pay it,you never know if it could come back and haunt you at a later date.

Yes pay the 45 euros quickly.

For future reference, the tolerance on all cameras is just 5kph - not very generous if its a 130kph limit.

I was relieved of €90 recently (first time in dozens of trips to France) by a couple of flics with binoculars. 123 kmh was "discounted" to 116 kmh - 5% reduction - on a nice straight, dry, traffic free rural road. Given the thousands of miles I have driven, I considered this to be good value! Was relieved that I was not caught a couple of minutes earlier as I was knocking on to an indicated 160 kmh - can't help thinking that a court appearance may have resulted.

BTW - only had €35 on me so they held my passport whilst I went to an ATM several km away; drew €100 but gendarmes did not have change - so a further trip to ATM was needed to get smaller notes. A real PITA.

Will proceed with more caution in future; as has been said countless times before the good times are now over - the roads are still great but must be enjoyed at legal speeds nowadays.
