last year we did the road trip and all went really well and we were speeding alot. now we were only flashed by cameras (we thought we were) and never stopped by any police. (about 3 cameras i think) we were expecting to get fines but we haven't had anything since and this was august 2012.

now we are doing another road trip and my mate has been hearing stories that if you go in the same car that when you get off the ferry they clock your car and they can see that you were speeding and then give you a fine there and then and the fines can be pretty serious.

can anyone confirm this or have we go nothing to worry about

im in and out of france on a regular basis , ive yet to have my passport checked ! Internet rumour i imagine though there are loads of mobile trap and unmarked cars so keep your eyes peeled for the random car with a small box beside it on any road these days .

In the last 10 yrs of travelling to & from France i've yet to see any traffic Gendarmes anywhere near the Ports and the Ports are only interested in getting people out of the way.
I've set off the usual cameras on route to house South of LM ( Rouen Tunnel & A28 Risle pont )and have never been bothered by Gendarmes.

If you were driving a non-French registered car and were regularly cropping up on the cameras then they would be looking out for you. That happened to a French domiciled businessman with a Belgian registered car recently.

Its very unlikely you'll have any problems simply from camera flashes a year or so ago.

If you're likely to be a bad boy again, don't forget that the gendarmes can take your licence away and stop you from driving for up to 72 hours on the spot if you're 40kmh over the limit, so make sure that a passenger has a valid licence with them as this can happen at a services or toll booth in the middle of nowhere.

However, my advice is don't speed on typical Brit-frequented routes, particularly at times of motoring events.
Have a great trip!
