Monflanquin - Fly to Toulouse or Bordeaux
Discussion
Good afternoon all,
A family friend owns a house in Monflanquin and has said that we can use it for our holiday coming up in June, the plan will be to fly out from Gatwick to either of the above listed airports, hire a car and drive there, both are approximately 2 hours away, flights are about the same cost wise. I am looking for advice on which will be the best drive, the easiest airport or if there is anything you feel would set one apart from the other, maybe something to see in either of the cities.
Oh, and if you have any local knowledge of Monflanquin, suggestions of things to do! I have had a look online and found the local vineyards and restaurants, but if anyone has first hand experience, it would be appreciated!
Thank you.

During the summer season you can fly to Bergerac from all sorts of places in the UK, not sure if June falls within the season though.
As for things to do, Montflanquin is out in the sticks, head north towards Bergerac and there is enough there to keep you busy for weeks. Try one of the aerial parcs if you've got a head for heights.
Bergerac Karting is a great track as well.

Can't help with the best route or anything like that, but Blagnac (Toulouse) is a terrible and time consuming airport nowadays.
They seem to have made it as awkward as possible since the new terminal was built, endless walking, with everything being what feels like miles away from where you are.
And as for the hire cars, they moved them all from a nice convenient car park into a multi storey which is a good 10 minute walk from the terminal, especially Avis who have the distinction of being the furthest away down in the bottom corner.

I flew to Bergerac in the summer of 2011. The airport is incredible... so basic but given that your flight will be the only being handled you should be able to collect your baggage & leave quickly. I got the impression that when I arrived at lunchtime the douaniers were desperate for something to eat & let the passengers pass through very quickly. Car hire facilities are minimal - if you want something out of the ordinary, do pre-book.
Minimal food facilities - the only choice was between vending machines. Very easy, very quaint, very old-fashioned (most airports were like this I assume - in the thirties!).
BTW I (and several others) got stiffed on the homebound leg for a Ryanair overweight cabin baggage penalty and was told by the staff (are they on commission?) that the bag would have to go in the hold. After fleecing me of too many Euros, the ground crew lost interest and the bag went on board, in the overhead locker without a whisper. You have been warned.
