I've found out that the Effiel Tower won't be having fireworks this year but a light show instead? Our plans were to be at Sacre Coeur and over view Paris and start the new year there.

Is this the ideal place to be considering we may not be able to see the light show from there, would have imagined the firework could be seen on a clear night, the research I've done says Montemarte is the place to be if your looking for a more relaxed environment than the Champs Elyss (spelling?)

Yes great place to be. Just make your mind up about what time you are eating and get a table booked. It will be packed around the steps so be aware of that and keep you pockets well closed. Enjoy.

Thanks for the response, we're staying in a hotel that area and plan on getting a large dinner early on and getting to the steps around 9pm at least to get a good position to see the rest of Paris.

Thanks for the advice though, we'll be carrying next to nothing when it comes to our pockets bar the essentials but will be careful

I'd agree with avoiding the Champs - tends to have a lot of youth from the less salubrious Parisian suburbs, together with a lot of CRS riot police. Not necessarily a problem, but a combustible mix.

Restaurants seem to close early on New Years Eve/not be open at all so trying to find somewhere to eat early sounds like a good idea.

Thanks for asking, it was great! Cycled around New Years Day on the bikes you can rent , disappointed by the light display thought it'd be better than what it was, but otherwise great.
Hotel was in the 18th district and a short journey to Champs De Lysee or Invalides was handy. Thanks for the advice earlier

Glad you had a good time. I like Paris alot ! Mainly because its tiny and easy to get about. For me its just 5 hours max from mine to centre ville.
Great for a weekend etc.
