But would you want to drive in Paris anyway? I certainly wouldn't if I could help it. Last time I did the Place de l'Etoile was in a Disco and it was not nice. The Disco's owner was in the back with his hands over his head saying 'hit me now, hit me now'...

The A86 goes out between 12 and 16km it is not just inside the peripherique. I guess there are plenty of people who own cars and live inside that area

Have just posted this here http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f...

It's clear to see what Delanoë is up to. There are many 1,000's of cars within Paris area older than 17years giving the mayoral office a great opportunity for additional punative tax revenue, theoretically reduce congestion and polution, force new French car sales, and generally ride off the back of the current euro-green wave that's waffling its way around the arrondissements ala the cycle parking pick-ups and electric car points.

Inversely, whilst in Paris this w/e I saw more Porsche/Range Rover and gas guzzling 4x4's than ever before. Neuilly is awash with them. He/the Govt' will attack the classic car user in the same subversive way as Sarko' via the near-invisble speed cameras.

As far as i understand its not so much the classic cars but the wrecks that my French Parisien/charentais pals drive about in. They drive absolute crap heaps.
Unlike alot of us petrol heads on here, they just dont give a st what they drive.
They think because i drive and tune a Fiat 20vt (15 years old) i must be minted.
They are really put out about the possible change.

I suspect imminent massive pollution fines from the European court of justice have as much to do with it as wearing the green hat does. France hasn't exactly respected the air quality directive.

If I had to park in Paris every day, I wouldn't want to do it in a car I gave a st about either.

The FFVE is already lobbying for an exemption for classics, and they have a good track record. But this or something like it is going to happen, and not just in Paris. Those EU fines aren't going to go away.

Good comment on there...
Paris would definitely look much better if they banned modern cars from the streets rather than classics!!

It's a sad day when one of the world's most stylish cities is threatening to ban beautiful old cars rather than ugly modern ones.
