Where are the French PH Massive?

Hi All,
The good Mrs and I are looking at moving to France in the next 12 months and I just wondered where and how far and wide the French PH Legion are (just being nosey, basically!).
All going well a property recce holiday will be on the cards in September (three weeks - ish) so if any of you can give any estate agents the thumbs up, that would also be superb.

Whereabouts are you looking?
We've been in lower Normandy (just above Mayenne) for about two and a half years full-time, but bought in 2007. Love it, but I sometimes miss English pubs. You can either be a part of the expat community or become French, or a bit of both like us... your choice!

Funnily enough one of the areas we feel would suit well is where you are (Mayenne area/Normandy/Brittany), however we are also looking further south and not too far from the coast. That said, I realy don't mind where in (rural) France we end up. Essentially we will be semi-retired and just kicking back and enjoying life as the plan is to sell here, spend far less in France and live off the income of UK owned rental properties.

We bought in 2004 and permanently in June 2007. We're in the Limousin not far from Limoges and 10 mins from the Dordogne border in the Limousin-Perigord Natural Park. Only 4 houses in this hamlet and one of those is not occupied. Sitting here with a nice cuppa looking out of the window at some stunning scenery. We were quite lucky with our agent as she was very good but has since retired. Other agents around here are Bourse in Chalus, Peylet also in Chalus and Leggett Immo in Oradour-sur-Vayres. We bought a derelict cottage with some outbuildings and a barn and about 16 acres of ground. Did the cottage first and moved into that whilst we did the barn, turning that into a 300m sq 4 bedroom house. No regrets so far but the bureaucracy can be a bit wearisome at times.
I'm in the Morbihan, not too far from Vannes and the Gulf du Morbihan, great place to be, not too hot and never too cold, winters seem shorter here. been here 8 yrs full time, best thing I ever did, stress ? what's that then !!

Have lived near to Versailles since 1998 but am now upping sticks, renting out house and moving to Florida for a few years. We'll think about coming back once the socialists have been chucked out ......

My recommendation would be to decide on where you want to live first. Most importantly, remember the weather that you experience in September will not be at all representative of February. We first decided that we liked the Loire Valley in 1990, but it was only when we had decided how we would spend our winters, that I was happy to spend the summer months here from 2005.
France is different, we say that the best things about France are that it is like UK 30+ years ago, and the worst things about France are that it is like UK 30+ years ago.

I know what you mean wrt the weather, etc.
TBH, we're in West Wales and don't mind the rain, but the friggin horse flies and midges here drive me nuts!
Ideally, warmer summers (actual sunshine would be nice) and snow for part of the winter would be great, as we enjoy the spectacle of each season.

Few british people pops up regularly on La Roche Sur Yon monthly car meeting, they all seem to enjoy living in Vendée.
As a former inhabitant of Brittany, the flat landscape of the west of the county saddens me, I'd really like to get the best of both, Brittany countryside & Vendée climate.
