Local knowledge would be appreciated.

Arriving in Toulouse late afternoon on Friday, 3 40-something lads on a stag weekend.
We are staying in the Ibis in the centre of the city for two nights.
Only firm plan is to watch the Toulouse v Brive rugby match on Saturday.

We are young at heart and would like to visit some decent bars with a lively atmosphere in the centre of town (we will be staggering back late smile ). Before hitting the bars we would like to have a decent meal - not majorly expensive, not in a quiet/romantic (!) restaurant.

I would appreciate some steers as to bars to visit, and also where to find the lively area of town (Hotel is a stone's throw from Place Jeanne d'Arc)

Thanks for your help

There are a few Ibis hotels in Toulouse, so I'll assume that you mean the one on Rue Claire Pauilhac, which is the closest to the Jeanne d'Arc bus station.
If so, then go down towards the bus station and when you get to the Boulevard de Strasbourg (main road) turn left. About 150M down on your left you'll see the "Melting Pot" which, as it's name implies, is full of all different people. All the bar staff speak English fluently, so no problems there. They also know how to charge...

Come out of there, turn left, up to the lights turn left again on the massive three lane dual carriageway (Allee Jean-Jaures) and keep going to the second main set of traffic lights then turn right by the canal. Keep going about 500 - 1000M and you'll come across the De Danu which is an Irish bar and used to be owned by ex rugby player Trevor Brennan (played for Stade & Ireland) He used to be part owner, not sure now but he's usually about. There are quicker ways to get to it than this, but Toulouse is an easy place to get lost in.

As for the food thing, there are loads of restaurants by the Melting Pot. Across the road from there and slightly to your left, is one called L'Entrecote. No menu here, just steak as it should be cooked. Not bad prices either, though you may have to queue to get in.
If you go past here then down to the lights, turn right and across the first roundabout follow the signs for Capitole and you're right in the centre. Gets expensive here, but at least there's a Maccy D. The De Danu also do food, a bit limited, but a good Irish breakfast for Sunday.
Hope you enjoy it. smile

ETA: If, when you pass the bus station towards the Strasbourg, you were to go straight across, keep walking 150M or so on the semi-pedestrianised area and the official Rugby shop will be on your right. You'll never moan about British prices again after visiting here.

Fantastic - just what I need. You guessed the correct Ibis too. Merci beaucoup!
