Cottage, Apartment,Villa for a couple

The Wife and I will be holiday to the South in July and are looking for some nice accommodation. Obviously, that's peak season and expensive, but the main problem is finding somewhere small enough for a couple that is still nice.

So, do any French PHers have any suggestions? Open to anything really. Not very fussy on location, anywhere between Marseille and Italy. Would like somewhere to be able to sit out in the evening. Will consider a rural hideaway, or in town. Needs parking. Absolute max 1k for week. Would prefer a bit less.
