Hi,

When I moved to Paris I kept my RHD, UK spec car, and registered it with French plates. I am now looking to sell and would appreciate your advice on the best course of action - advertise here, or re-import to the UK and sell there? The car is nothing special, a modern car worth about 5k.

Thanks

Is it the A6 in your profile?

Won't be much in it to be honest. RHD repmobiles aren't exactly in demand over here, so you'll need to discount 10-15% compared to an equivalent LHD.

£5000 is currently about €5900.
LaCentrale.fr reckons average value (for the LHD version) is €7800. Or €8600 if it's a Quattro "Pack Plus", whatever that is...I'm assuming yours isn't.

Re-registering is tiresome, so I'd get it detailed, try my luck with a cheeky ad at €7200, drop to €6850 if no-one bites, and consider any offer over €6200 a win.

Good luck,

Yes it is the A6. Thank you very much for the advice, I hadn't heard of lacentrale but will place an ad there in a couple of weeks.

Stick it on here also http://www.leboncoin.fr/ And maybe try here also. http://paris.angloinfo.com/

And then stick it in the neighbouring french regions of anglo info.

No.

I've heard this before....perhaps it was true in the past, or perhaps it's just a myth that keeps getting perpetuated.

There are a number of factors that can make it difficult for a French person to register a foreign car (e.g. type approval issues, absence of quitus fiscal in registrant's name, and others), but RHD isn't among them.

Anyway, in acl's case, the car is already registered in France, so as far as the authorities are concerned it'll be a simple change of ownership.

@acl: I forgot to recommend a contrôle technique. If the current one is older than 6 months, have a new one done and mention it in the ad. It's a (not always respected) legal requirement, and one that increases perceived value.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I really appreciate it. The car has a recent controle technique so that won't be a worry.

Probably a bastarrdisation of the rule that say French residents cannot drive or sell a foreign registered vehicle.

Dealers and hire cars excepted of course.

I have to add that as if I don't quick as a flash somebody pedant always comes back with 'what about...' punch
