Hi All,

Looking for a budget hotel for a quick overnight stop in mid July, somewhere just off the A71 between Bourges and Clermont Ferrand.

Any thoughts?

Etap and Mr Beds in Bourges but just wondering if anything else?

We have 3 kids, all very young - so would rather get us all together - than have to book 2 rooms - but all seem to want us to have 2 rooms. Not being tight - but we'll be there from approx 8pm til 4am ish - not like we want luxury!

It's ok folks.

All booked now.

Etap Bourges on the way down, and Etap Orleans on the way back.

Anyone any idea realistically how long to get from Orleans, via Chartres, Rouen and Abbeville, to Calais? Early morning job.

I'm thinking just over 4 hours?

That extra hour just makes it so much more early morning!

In our eternal naive-ity in getting to and from places in France, we've decided to book onto the 7.45am Calais to Dover. Which means 6.45am check-in at Calais.

Fine if we were stopping near Calais. But it's going to be a 1.45am start in Orleans.

Still, at least the traffic will be quiet. Almost tempted to risk Paris.

Or is that suicide? Will stick to Chartes/Rouen/Abbeville i think.

Middle of France is Bourges on the way down.

Orleans is definately South Northern France.

Better crank up the car that day and make sure the tank is topped up. Doesnt look like im going to have a lot of time to juice up with cheap diesel before i leave! Worse thing is that if i miss that ferry, next is hours later!

Mrs has said though that if worse comes to worse, we can have a few hours in Calais.

I don't think she knows what downtown Calais is like.

If you get the chance pop into Boulogne and fill up at Le Clec supermarket ,it has 24 hour card pumps there. Avoid Total stations if possible as they tend to be pricey. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Thanks.

Always surprises me the price difference between normal filling stations and supermarkets in France - such a big price difference - no idea how they compete!

Know of a few supermarkets just off the main motorway that we use and will make sure i add the Boulogne one to the list. Is this the one just near McDonalds and Decathlon?

4 hours is fine at that time of the night and I reckon Paris would be fine as your hitting it about 3 am!!!
But it sounds like a hell of a thing to willingly do though, getting up halfway through the night. Are'nt you meant to be on holiday?
I don't think you actually need to be at the port an hour before, that sounds a bit early.
There's also another sailing on average 1.5 hours later at most isn't there/ they'll happily put you on that, worst case scenario.
