i'll send a email to my insurers in france and see what they say
A kind gesture, but one that seems akin to asking wolves whether or not they fancy mutton for breakfast If it stays off public roads, there's no specific requirement in law for it to have insurance.
However:
- Property insurance may or may not cover fire/theft/storm damage etc. for the car.
- Under Civic Responsability law, an uninsured owner could potentially be held liable for any damage or injury caused by a vehicle, even during/following theft (yes, I know ).
If you don't want to take the risk, and if the car's over 10 years old, it may be eligible for 3rd party classic insurance (much cheaper).
Hope that helps,

EDIT : I've just realised how old the original post was. Oh well, maybe the info will help someone...
