Why is it that every evening there's at least one programme on British TV about the miserable and meaningless lives of the stupidest and nastiest people in our society? Usually made by some wktastic Guardian journalist with the idea that filming moaning chavs equals investigative reporting.
I just saw a bit of that stupid programme, which is still on, about Holloway prison. All these dopey mares moaning on about their lack of Christmas decorations, and how it's not nice to be in prison. Of course it fking well isn't you thick cow, it's not supposed to be. That's why they put you there for shoplifting and benefit fraud, rather than for building a hospital or inventing a new kind of medicine.
Certainly, it's not always particularly flattering attention, but it's attention none the less. Are these people really that interesting? I can go to any council estate in the land and meet hundreds and hundreds of fat lazy cretins who think the world owes them a living, and explain their thoughts with all the eloquence of a pig in a gin trap. Do we need it broadcast as well? You can also see the effects their scummy houses and wanton sloth have on the decent people who live in those places if you go there in person...
Who is it that watches this endless drivel? And what do you find so fascinating about these morons? Why isn't such attention lavished on the many people who do interesting and constructive things?
I know there's occasional cases pop up where someone does something horrific, something bad but really well done, or something outrageously stupid and it merits looking at closer. Fun and entertaining and perhaps even something you can learn from, but the TV "stars" in these programmes are nearly always remarkable only for their unremarkable, run of the mill idiocy. They hit someone with a bottle, got caught, sent to prison, and now suddenly everyone is really interested that they are having a tantrum with the kindly but stupid prison guard who indulges their foot stomping.
You could blame the media, you could blame the government, but it's got to be something deeper than that. There must be a genuine demand out there to sit hour after hour and watch the lives of the worst examples of our society as they fall to bits on TV, and that seems very sad and stupid to me.

My flat mate and I also put the TV in the attic (its rented with the house so can't bin it). To be honest it's not missed, anything that we really want to watch we can watch it online. It also means that there is no instant conversation killer in the corner of the living room. Much better.

I'm currently chasing a pubic [sic] sector job that is going to involve a *lot* of contact with a lot of utter lowlife. This will be very interesting since I am somewhat to the right of Himmler and detest our criminal white underclass with a passion that can only be resolved by the use of nuclear weapons. However this is not possible: the chav is "The Customer". I will have to lightly tongue their ringpiece before I give them (your) money. I would not be in the slightest bit surprised to learn that Prison Officers have to refer to their incarcerated as "customers" or call them "sir".
Sounds like you're going in with a great attitude! Haha
Keep that quiet in the interview I guess.
Seriously though, that's actually a good thing. Get yourself set in, stay a year or so then you are set. These people in the public sector are mostly weak minded fools who only yield to these scum ball chavs because they offer some sort of certainty.
(Ab)use your position to put these people under your leadership and then turn them against the "customers" and cut off their life blood (our money). Once you have built yourself a good powerbase in there you can climb the ranks, get to know some army generals and senior policemen with similar views and then arrange a coup.
Tanks on Downing Street, Winky Mcfkwit swinging from a lamp post, you can Iinstall me as Lord Protector, and we'll start the big clean up.
PM me when you get to Whitehall and we'll sort this mess out!
