Anyone with Tiscali having dire peak time slow connections? My router is showing over 7mb sync speed yet between 6 and 10pm speedtest never shows above 2mb with awful ping times so COD4 is laggy between these hours weekend and after 10PM I get 5mb. This has only been in the last 2 weeks last 4 years had no issue. I called them and they say everything is fine on the line. So its obviously capped which is no good to me. I rarely download large files so FUB is not the issue. how simple is it for bt to retake over the line etc and get be broadband? Is it a quick thing?

Number of users connected to the exchange.
I get the same thing, 6am get around 8mb, 6pm lucky to get 2.
To be fair i was offered out of the contract with them but as any other supplier will be using the same exchange makes no difference.

Not "obviously capped". Contention my dear fellow; those damned neighbours of yours have dared to use their internt connections at the same time as you.

Although they deny it Tiscali do apply traffic shaping, and it has been known to cause problems with online games. That being said, contention is alway going to be an issue while this country insists on squeezing too much data down too narrow a pipe.

I'm with Pipex Homecall, now part of Tiscalli, and during one rather heated conversation with one of their tech's he did openly admit to traffic shaping, which can clearly be demonstrated using any torrent system..... after 16:30 and before 08:30.....contention ratio also sucks, but last night was absolutely horrendous, the worst occaison in years for me, could hardly connect at all. woefull and I'm looking to go elsewhere.

I agree to traffic shaping for Torrents. When I do ever download I set it to download last thing at night and autoclose when completed, usually before I get up in the morning, it's only fair.

But I agree I could not even get on www.speedtest.net to even test the connection last night. Massively frustrating.

So would you say if I changed provider it would not give me even speeds i.e. BE Broadband who do not monitor/filter at all. Is this down to the qty of people on the exchange? I will have to find my local exchange in that case and start pulling wires biggrin
