Let's see what happens to Nicky Campbell....
Discussion
Listening to FiveLive on the drive in a few minutes ago and there was a very awkward moment when Nicky Campbell introduced a Conservative guest and blogger and referred to him as "Right Wing" in his introduction.
The guest then said "Thank you for having me on the left-wing BBC", to which Campbell, off the cuff called him a fascist.
The guest (whose name escapes me) responded quickly and made Campbell take it back, which he unreservedly did and Campbell added "This is not a left-wing BBC either". Campbell also apologised again at the end of the interview for his comment.
While ill-judged, it was clearly not a seriously meant comment and was immediately apologised for.
So why am I posting this?
Simply because it was a non-event, but I wonder if there will be any fall-out from it...
Given the current levels of hysteria surrounding any un-PC comments anywhere, I wonder if there will be calls for Campbell to be sacked. Jon Gaunt was sacked for using this word, although his interview (which you can hear on YouTube) was much stronger (although I generally supported him in what he was saying).
It does also raise the question of just how careful any public figure has to be these days in case they cause offence (remember David Jason last week?)

I can understand why NC was asked to apologies for calling him a fascist - it's in the same vein as assuming that someone is a terrorist just because they are muslim. However, the statement that the Tory MP is right wing and that the BBC are left wing are probably indisputable.

So, what are we saying gents? Should we mount a "complain campaign" a la Brand-Ross-Sachs? You know, "I didn't hear it but if I had I would definitely have been offended so I feel justified in registering this complaint".
Anyone got a link to the "make a complaint" part of the BBC?
I think so. After all, I hate that smug ****** so if this can annoy him then it's worth a shot............Anyone got a link to the "make a complaint" part of the BBC?
Wouldn't have happened in the old days....
The BBC home service, circa 1938.
Posh BBC radio announcer.
"Good Morning, God Save The King, and welcome to our colonial subjects around the empire. Today our special guest is a Mr Adolf Hitler, Chancellor of the Third Reich, and leader of Germany."
Mr A Hitler, (for it is he).
"Gut Morgen, danke for heffing me on der left wing BBC."
Posh BBC radio announcer.
"So Mr Hitler, you're a fascist."
