Which baby sling thing?....
Discussion
Random post I know but if you want to know stuff about things then this is the place to ask.
What are your experiences of these baby sling devices. We have a new daughter and there are a vast array of the bloody things. What works well and is suitable for a 1 week old man cub?
I apreciate this post may get no responses and disappear onto page 739 within minutes

Hot Sling is what my wife used for our baby.

If you are talking about one of those harnesses that you can buy to strap your new born to your chest, in my mind a complete waste of money. The Mrs insisted we get one previous to our son being born. Me being me went and bought the best one I could find... utter waste of money, I think I used it once or twice.
The pram was way better and of more use. If you can't afford a pram, get a third world style baby sling. If you are contemplating an expensive baby sling, buy a cheap second hand pram. If you can afford a nice pram, treat your self to a few bottles of wine instead of a baby sling.

I bought the top of the range Baby Bjorn carrier and it was an arse. Unwieldy, bulky, fairly uncomfortable for long distances, too hot in the summer, took ages to dry after a wash and was hardly used at all.
Then I bought a ring sling that looked a bit like the ones on the Babasling website above - what a godsend!
The one with padded edges was great when the baby was small - it was superlatively comfortable, washed easily, gave lots of variety on different positions for the baby etc
Then the last one I bought was used almost all day, everyday for about a year (and a fair bit after that when the baby was too tired to walk) - again, it was a ring sling like the Babasling but without the padded edges. It was fantastic, bought off eBay for about £20 but made with purpose made rings, it washed and dried really easily, would screw up small enough to put in my handbag when it wasn't in use, the tail was used for wiping grubby hands and faces, it was a sunshield during summer and I would highly recommend one. I walked literally miles in mine (and I'm not a lentilist btw). Baby can go on your front, back or side depending on age, and face out, face in or lying down.
Not everyone gets on with them, but for me it was perfect.
Although I didn't buy one of their slings, the Zolowear website has some brilliant tutorial videos which were invaluable - once you've got the knack, using them is as easy as pie - http://zolowear.com/Wearing.aspx

I'm thinking a sling would be great for when I'm being forced to do the odd household chore so the wife can get some sleep. Also much easier to sling the little bugger up when going out for a quick walk with the dog rather than mobilise the silver cross behemoth.
Cheers.
