Has anyone else working in the square mile heard anything about when and where these protests/marches are going to take place in and around liverpool street station ? My work are advising people to work from home where possible but i think i am going to come in and dodge the flying sandles if at all possible. I dont fancy being caught amongst them, surrounded by a police blockade and forced to sit on the pavement for an entire day however, so if this is likely i may well not bother trying smile

No specific detail on when the marches are happening, but strongly recommended to wear non-business attire for the day. Don't want your pristine suit defiled by the crusties on exit from the train station....

Staff will be aware that the “G20” summit conference is taking place in London on Thursday 2 April this week. The conference will be attended by national leaders from around the world. Press publicity has focused on the demonstrations and protests which are planned both on 1 April in the run-up to the conference and on 2 April when the conference takes place at the Excel Centre in Docklands

The following events are known to be planned on 1 April:

• A Stop the War March moving from Grosvenor Square (14.00) to Trafalgar Square

• “Financial Fools” and “Fossils Fools” demonstrations in the City and Westminster/Trafalgar Square

• An overnight Climate Change camp in the City

On 2 April, all demonstrations and protests will move to the Excel Centre in Docklands.

All police leave has been cancelled on these two days and an extra 3000 police officers will be on duty. The police are confident that they can continue to deal effectively with “ordinary crime” in London as well as the potential disruption caused by protestors. Nevertheless, they acknowledge that there is a certain degree of unpredictability around what may occur.
Apparently, the City march starts from Liverpool St at 11am.

I don't wear suits anyway so thats no biggie - its more being caught up with them and having to waste a day amongst people who smell of piss and stale stella.

I quite fancy a trip to London to watch this. Sounds like a good spectator sport crusties clashing with bankers and police.

The thought sends shivers down my spine... One of my best mates from uni is now in Swampy's inner circle. The shame of it.

As you may be aware the G20 Summit will take place on Thursday 2nd April at the London ExCel Centre. There are a number of planned events, marches and protests leading up to and on the day of the G20 Summit. Events include:

1 April – ‘Financial Fools’ demonstration in the City of London also branded as Climate Camp. RBS, European Climate Exchange and the Bank of England have all been mentioned on protest websites.
1 April – ‘Fossil Fools’ environmental demonstration in Westminster.
1 April – G20 Meltdown which is likely to be the most disruptive protest. There will be 4 marches leaving from Cannon Street, Moorgate, Liverpool Street and London Bridge and all will congregate at The Bank of England for approximately 12 noon. At this point it is expected a number of demonstrators will take the opportunity to erect tents and possibly stay the night.
1 April – Stop the War protest in Westminster.
2 April – Stop the War protest at ExCel, further demonstrations from supporters of ‘Free Tibet, supporters of human rights in Ethiopia, and spontaneous anti-capitalist and anti-globalisation demonstrations in the areas surrounding ExCel.

Yep - spot on.

I'm out for a few beers Thursday afternoon to watch the action, sad I know but in reality highly amusing.

Hopefully it will rain.

I hope they remember RBS is nationalised so it's owned by 'the workers' these days.

Wouldn't fancy working in Starbucks on Wednesday (or at all, now I think about it).

Yeah, but the French would have a blockade, burn some sheep and get the rozzers out with water cannons. It's kinda hard to protest against a water cannon... hehe

Water cannon is a bloody good idea. Best to turn the pressure up a few BAR and make sure you get behind those ears biggrin
