I was the highest bidder on an item right up until the last few seconds when out of nowhere I was trumped by a pound.

Bit peeved but fair game and all that.

Then I noticed the seller re-listed the item straightaway, which seemed a bit suspect - its obvious my bid wasn't high enough for him so he has outbid me....

Then this morning I get an email offering me a "second chance" ??

Part of me wants to take him up on his second chance - the price is right and I want the item - but on the other hand I dont know if I should bother giving him my custom...

F**k sake why can't people just use ebay properly?

It could also have been an "automatic" bid from a potential buyer who perhaps couldnt commit after all.

It may be that he had more than one item, and so it could be cheaper fee wise to do it that way

shill bid, he's put a high bid in to see what your max bid was

offer him what your bid was at before he outbid you, IYKWIM, otherwise report him

I always bid using a sniping tool, so any auctions I win will show me as pipping the previous bidder by the minimum amount at the last second.

Could be what happened to you.

Always wondered about this..if everyone used a sniping tool which one would win the auction?

they have subscription's where you can specify when your last bid is.............so the person who would win is the person who pays for the best service (allowing for delays in internet traffic etc)

I have always used sniping tools. Only a fool bids before the last closing seconds of an auction as it generates item interest, causes buidding frenzies, encourages non-rational and non-profitable buying.

Whereas if you use sniper software, you just put in the amount you would like to get it for and walk away. When the auction closes you either win it or you don't. You don't have to wait up all night or be back for an auction, and you get it for whatever the bidding amount max you entered was.
