So many people post on here regarding poor service and / or problems that I thought I'd post to praise the service we've just had from the passport office.

My Daughter is off to France on Monday for a week, with school.

So Friday night I decide to get all the documents together, and double check my Daughter's passport (The wife having already checked it in December, when the trip was booked).

I ask the wife when she thinks the passport expires; she says May; upon checking it I discover that it expires on the 26th March yikes

Don't panic! We ring the passport helpline, who are a model of calm and efficiency. We get the only 4 hour passport appointment left in the country; for 10:00 AM (but be there for 9:00AM says the helpful chap). The only problem being that the appointment is in Glasgow; we're in Sheffield.

So no heavy drinking on Friday night for me!

So 4:00AM Saturday morning, and we're all ready and heading for Glasgow. Get there around 8:15AM and have a spot of brekkie before heading to the passport office.

Arrive there and pass through the body scanners; then off to the first desk.
Fill out the form and hand it in. 60 seconds later our number is called for the second desk. The chap there is very helpful, and noting that we've driven up from Sheffield says he'll expedite things a little, and that we should come back around 11:30 to collect it.

Another 60 seconds and we're called to the payments desk, where I suddenly find myself £94 lighter of pocket.

Then off for a couple of hours shopping in Glasgow, or in my case sleep in the car.

Back to the passport office for 11:30 amd it's all ready for collection.

Superb service.

A big thanks from myself, the wife and most of all my daughter.

It would be even more impressive if you hadn't needed to drive several hundred miles to get to an office that could do it.

I mean, it is only a bloody document with a bit of checking records to be done?
I'm still smarting from the £72 I had pick pocketed by them to change my wife's name when we got married.

£90 odd quid for a passport. Jeez mine ran out last year but I certainly won't be renewing it until I have to go across the water at that price.

The service was good, within the boundaries of what you were offered. In reality, you should have been able to renew the passport in Sheffield on the same day, and for free.
