I really do not understand how the RM can be in financial difficulty.
We had a card pushed through from them telling us we had a mail item with insufficient postage paid.
I went down to the sorting office to collect the a4 envelope. It had a first class stamp on, but apparantly it was 6p underpaid. Cost to me . £1 handling PLUS the 6p.
I then went to post a small jiffy bag to a customer who really needed the item next day. Cost for guaranteed next day delivery before 1.oo pm. Cost £5.45!
£5.45 to ensure a service that only a few years ago would have been taken for granted - eg next day delivery before 1.
Why are we now having to pay such a premium for what should be standard first class mail.
Ar$es.

Also why are at least 4 of them standing outside Waterloo station this morning handing out badges saying we should keep Royal Mail Public?
I know some parties feel strongly about this, but have these guys taken a days holiday just so they can stand on the streets giving out badges? Given they were in Royal Mail uniform I am guessing they were doing this instead of delivering post??
Seems they cant see the irony in them making the service worse(ie post being late because they are not delivering) by protesting and therefore adding to the arguement that wholesale changes need to be made to the way Royal Mail is operated to ensure the service is what the public wants.

ordered stuff from a website for a saturday delivery, went to the website whilst having breakfast and noted that my kit had been delivered and signed for, but not by me...
went down to the office and found eventually that my signed for items were still in the back of the delivery van with the guy on his tea break

I 7600 odd packages sent via RM in last 6 months. 16 have been lost. To me that s pretty impressive for an untracked service.
Indeed, we have had two items lost since 2002! Plenty of people claim they haven't had things but these mysteriously turn up when we request a P58 form. Sad really.I'd like to see you get it there the next day beofre 13:00hrs for less then £5.45!
Furthermore, If people paid the correct postage in the first place a department wouldn't be required to sort it and process the admin involved. All of which cost extra money to fund.

[Jack Dee] Let's see how far you get with your 27p train ticket[/Jack Dee]
I have to argue that for what you pay, even with the price increase coming in, I genuinely think you are getting a good service.
OK, so it varies and it can be stupidly expensive to send bigger stuff, but smaller stuff is a bargain.
I can send most of the things I sell anywhere in the country for either 46p (large 2nd class) or £1.00 for bigger stuff (95p made up by 2 x 95p stamps)that doesn't fit through that silly letterbox. I can't argue with that, especially when the seller lumps that cost anyway.
I can also get anything that fails to get delivered to my home redirected to a post office local to work for a measly 50p.
And in all fairness, out of about 1000 packages, only 3 have gone missing, and I genuinely believe that 2 of those 3 were actually delivered but people scammed me that they weren't.
