A significant number of psychiatrists and therapists are trying to help lesbian or gay patients become heterosexual, according to research.

The research found that one in six of the 1,400 mental health professionals surveyed reported having helped at least one patient curtail their gay, lesbian or bisexual feelings

Why is it bks?

I think it makes perfect sense.

Because if persuasion can turn gays straight...................

Then a large % of 'allegedly' straight men could be turned gay.

All men have a bit of gay in them anyway.

Out and proud. Well done.

I'm not joking here... it's a biological *fact*

You all started out as female... and so it figures there's always a bit of 'girl' that makes men fancy men. Even if it's just a bit.

Im thinking this is your cunning plan to see how many PHers you can get to admit having "feelings" for thier own sex.

I am not falling for it... smile

I couldnt find the published data on BMC Psychiatry but if somebody does find it please post a link so I can go all 'Ben Goldacre' on them. My suspicion is that the study is absolute b***cks though.

Done a small bit of digging before going to bed, the website dedicated to the study has a disclaimer:

What ever next Doctors offer Coloured people help to be white ?

People are born into the bodies they live in and sexuality is something in your genes just like ethnic background.

There is a well grounded theory that the most homophobic men are those who have unconscious homsexual desires and repress them, which emerges as an antipathy towards Gay men because they feel threatended, not by the Gay man, but by their own desires emerging.

Me, I love gay men I do.

I think it's only the lesbians that can be converted as women are much more flighty and never know what they want.

Probably not. Mrs B and B says I give off 'Gay signs' resulting in me being approached and chatted up whenever she leaves me for a minute, but to date my own gay urges are lying dormant. I would make a crap gay man anyway as I do not match my own stereotype of gay men; I am too ugly, too out of condition, and too poorly groomed. I am also useless at saying if a bloke is good looking or not which she finds amusing as I rate Peers Brosnan and Jimmy Clitheroe as equally good looking as I only have a one point scale in my head.

All in all, I think talking me into being Gay would be a toughie.
