What kind of tt fits a backbox 16mm deep for a light socket in a brick wall

What's the easiest way to fit a deeper box, chain drill and chisel? If so, anyone got any top tips so I don't damage the existing plaster?

Have you considered using longer M4 screws. Might be simpler solution.

Home... And no, longer screws won't work as it needs to sit flush and the dimmer unit is deeper than the existing backbox

Chances are you'll chip the plaster getting the existing box out.

Drill and chisel.

Take a hammer and chisel to it, will only take a few minutes.

or three hours if you include the trip to A&E to get the grit removed from your eye if you don't wear eye protection

2 options - dremmel, hammer and chisel very carefully but it's a total PITA and will take hours or just use a cover plate surround to hide your enthusiasm with an angle grinder

either way isn't best practice TBH

They're normally that depth.

Why didn't you buy dimmers that fitted in standard plaster depth boxes?

I had a horrible feeling that was the answer. I'll cut round the plaster and fold the old box in on itself before I try to take it out.

I should know better than post something without a full explanation.

The reason I used the surround was because I fecked the plaster right up trying to dig out the back box it was removed once I got around to redecorating.

You could get a box cutter but they're £100 odd and I suspect you wont be using it again.
