Has anyone on PH sold items on Ebay recently because it's getting beyond a joke. PayPal have just introduced a new rule making it very difficult for a seller. Paypal will now hold on to Payment Transfers in your Paypal account, and these funds will not be released to your Bank account until you the seller have sent off the product and the buyer has received the goods.

What the hell is that about, who in there right mind sends out a product without the money going into there Bank account first, I do not know any company that will sent out a Computer to me before I make payment first, it's common sense, right. This is the last time I use PayPal, it's a bloody rip off if you ask me.

Essentially they have the sellers over a barrel and they are trying to attract more buyers with additional protection.

Doesn't the holding of funds only happen in some cases, not all?

The way around it used to be to refund a penny and then the whole amount became available to withdraw.

You say 'used to'...does it still work?
Nice little loop hole if it does.

Not a clue, never had funds held by PayPal before during a trade so never had to employ the work around.

I thought it only applied to new sellers?

Ebay try there best to annoy sellers at any opportunity, banning negative feedback is what boils my p*** the most.

From the information I have gathered it seem to be for larger transactions, it just make using Ebay and Paypal a joke, and a annoying one at that.

If you've been registered for more than 6 months or have more than 100 feedback they don't do it.

Apparently the 1p refund doesn't work anymore, Paypal got wise to it.

I had this last month when I sold a saddle on Ebay. Had the funds witheld until the buyer had left positive feedback on receipt of the goods or 21 days were up (whichever came first).

Needless to say I was fuming as they wanted me to send a £700 saddle out to someone without me being paid for it first.

Last time I ever use Ebay

It's not just me then, funny how the price of your saddle, and the price of my Amps which sold for nearly £700 are very similar. The sad thing is there is no one given Ebay or PayPal a run for there money.

well they certainly had a piece of my mind, holding money which basically is not theirs and expecting the seller to despatch high value goods really isn't on.

I would imagine it is registered for 6 months and feedback of over 100, as I had it happen to me on a feedback of 89, having been on there for years.

Used eBay to sell for the first time in ages and I'm seriously considering closing my account.

Listed the item and noticed that they now refuse to let you list unless you have a Paypal account.

Item sells for £100, buyer never pays. Ebay take £4.00 and refuse to let me leave negative feedback.

Item relisted, person from Moldova wins (despite auction saying I'll only post to UK).

Sent invoice.

Buyer demands I send them 3 seperate invoices for varying amounts.

Refuse to do this and politely ask them to pay in full.

Buyer sends three £1.00 payments via Paypal. Paypal take 24p each time.

Buyer emails to say they can't send more than £1.00 in any 30 minute period and will let me know why this is when they've heard back from Paypal.

Laughable really, but eBay/Paypal must surely be taking so much money that a good proportion of their users are on the verge of leaving.

If they ever withhold my money I will NOT release the item and the transaction will not occur.

I also only send items special delivery, which is tracked and signed for if people pay via paypal and I make this clear in my auctions.

This can make postage up to 3 times more expensive. Simply give them the option, pay via Postal Order, Bank Transfer postage is £5. Pay via Paypal and it's £15!

confused

Why would the way in which someone pays make any difference to how you ship the item?

I just send anything worth less than £35 recorded, and anything worth more by special delivery. Never had a problem.

Risk profiling.
Pay via bank, item shipped the cheapest sensible way, as the risk to the seller is negligible.
Pay via paypal, and the buyer complaint mechanism is so loaded against the seller that its insanity not to use the most secure means of delivery that will end with a seller proof of receipt that is verifiable and independent. It happens to cost three times as much, is all.

But Recorded Delivery gives you a verifiable, independent proof of delivery, and only costs 72p more than standard post.

I couldn't see why anyone would use Special Delivery under any circumstances for an item under £36, as it gives you no extra protection.

Likewise, if the item was worth significantly more than £36, then I'd want to send it Special Delivery, regardless of whether or not the buyer had paid via Paypal.
