...what would you do in your spare time?

Now I'm sure I'm going to get the normal raft of P&P silliness, but I'll take that as I'm sure something good will come up.

Anyway, I'm currently only working 3 days a week at the moment (it's a long story) and whilst I'm still trying to find some freelance work to fill in the void I still have 4 days a week spare. The weekends are generally full up as the OH and I are planning our wedding, but those 2 days to myself are a little empty. I've found that given half a chance I'll pretty much do nothing, and the work at the moment isn't the most fulfilling, so I'm missing that sense of achievement at the moment.

So what suggestions do the masses have? What would you do if you had spare time, but not much spare money?

Preparing to be roasted, but I recently got cut down to a 4 day week and so am planning on using my spare day as a Police Special.

I'd feel let down if this wasn't the first answer!

Any jobs/projects need doing round the house?

Failing that, I'd be blasting around country lanes all day.

Er, I mean looking for a part time job to help out with the wedding costs, dear.

This is my last week of work for at least 6 weeks. I'll be training twice a day and in between that sorting out the garden, sorting out the fun cars for drives to the Brecon Beacons/Dartmoor/etc, perhaps a bit of rock-climbing or mountain biking (although that could harm my training), some watching of TV and DVDs, doing the little jobs round the house.

I know a chap who's hours have been cut down to about 3 days a week, he bought himself a cheap van and advertises for "A man with a van" kind of thing, lugging stuff around for people etc.

This.

Why is that so bad? It's a necessary skill and needs constant practice to be successful.

The gym membership has gone as I was out of work for just under 3 months frown

Yeah, I'm slowly sorting the house out, I guess the garden will get sorted once the weather becomes a little more stable. However, the car is about to be sold, so blasting around the lanes is not an option anymore...

Funny you should say that, I've got an idea like that, but based around flat pack furniture.

I've worked a 3 day week for the last 7 years. [gloats]

I go running twice a week, work out in my gym twice a week and the rest is devided into playing music and doing other odd bits and bobs around the house or just sitting around enjoying doing nothing.

It's amazing how easy it can be too waste time, however a day of chilling occasionally is no bad thing. Why don't you make a list of things you've been meaning to do and see if you can achieve some of these in your free time. (If this means sitting down to catch up on a couple of films that's fine aswell!)

I have 1 day off during the week (still do 40hr week) and I have started to make sure I achieve something as I found I was wasting the day.

Not a bad idea, I've noticed how easy it easy to waste the day. I did try making a timed to-do list the night before and found that I stuck to it quite well.

I need to find things that get me out the house and I really feel like I want to be learning at the moment as well.

The van and flat pack furniture thing is a reasonable idea for those than can't get to Ikea. wink

Collect their stuff in your van and assemble it for them.

I did it for over twelve months and made a few quid and before anyone asks the van was a Vito not a Tranny. wink

That's exactly the plan. Just need to look into the costs of van etc...
