Basically, if you can show that you were distressed, distracted, dyslexic or in the case of one student posting their response on the BBC web site, suffering from 'sub-conscious stress' or your girlfriend being pregant you can get extra marks or time.

The thing I thought was funny was that the girl who had the sub-conscious stress and the lad whose girfriend had found out she was preganant the week before thought these were legitimate reasons for getting extra marks!

Seems some even get someone to stop them getting distracted.

I have been approached by (mainly middle class) parents to do assessments to get their off spring extra time in exams (with no pretence that they have a genuine disability).

My Missus has just completed her degree in Education (she's now an NQT, clever chick!). Last year, during one of her work placements, her father passed away very suddenly. Her placement mentor marked her down for that term because she 'seemed distracted'.

I wonder if it's possible to find many children who don't get stressed during exam time (Chavs excepted)....

All this extra time crap is a load of bks really.

If you're dylexic, you get 25% (i think) extra time... how would that work in the real world?

Boss: "Deadline's Tuesday"
Scrote: "Sorry it'll have to be Wednesday, im dyslexic so i get extra time..."
Boss: ".......... i think not"

It's just not setting people up for the real world, if we start giving people loads of extra help on exams everytime they're not as capable as others, why bother with exams?

Oh he's stupider than average, give him extra marks.
He can't read, give him extra marks.

I'll admit I got "special circumstances" for my A levels.

But owing to the fact I was off my face on prescription treats at the time having been in a serious car accident 72 hrs previously, I don't feel so bad about it.

I don't remember an awful lot of that..
