Hi

I have this evening being to my local focus diy store to get some tile adhesive/grout (pre mixed) and have had it in back of the cayenne all was well until i smealt tile adhesive on the way home and stopped to have a look.... it had fallen over and gone over the boot carpet.

It is in a plastic unibond sealed container but somehow the lid has come off !

I rang the shop from the side of the road and was told they would as a goodwill gesture replace the adhesive but would not entertain anything related to the car !

Where do you think i stand with this ?

I have looked at the lid and it has a safety device on the side of the container which you have to pull/push to break it off and then remove the lid one side is aleady broken do not know if thats when it fell over or this is why the lid came off.

Thanks

Mike

I dont understand the legal position but my feeling is that you should take this one on the chin.

To be honest the shop doesn't know if you've done it on purpose(there are quite a few chancers out there) - so not surprised they won't extend recompense beyond free replacement.

As such I agree with Molly - take it on the chin and put it down to experience.

If you're scared of anything getting damaged, then its a case of cover it and ensure the lid is on tight - learnt the hard way with paint from B&Q once !

My advice would be to bag those kinds of things and put them in the rear footwell.

Lids probably come off due to pot rolling around in the boot.

Mike, sorry to say that I don't think you have much recourse in this case, can't see the store caving in and I imagine your legal position is tenuous at best. Sounds like a real sod!

Mike, did pay with a credit card? Don't know if you'd have a claim against the card company for the faulty product and the damage it caused to your car's carpet etc.

Bad luck none the less. frown

Indeed.

On a practical note, if you are quick then the adhesive may be water-soluble while still wet, so be quick and apply a wet cloth. You may be lucky.

Legal position? Compo? Claiming through the credit card? Pointing the finger? Someone elses fault? Anyone elses fault? Sweet baby Jesus...
YOU neglected to secure it properly in the boot. Not the store. Not the manufacturer. YOU then went round a corner too fast, and it fell over. Your fault. End of trying to get someone to take the blame...
What is the matter with people these days...It was an accident that could have easily been prevented had you had the hindsight to see what could happen.
As has been said, you did well to get them to replace it as it is....i'd suggest you chalk it up to part of the learning curve of life...

Brillianty put and exactly my thoughts too.

I've had just about enough of people refusing to be accountable for anything they do.
It always has to be someone/thing else's fault.

It's always handy to have some old bed-sheets, towels, etc. to line the boot with.

And as further back up, years ago this happened to a guy I worked with (except it was paint and the passenger footwell of an xjs conv) he spent quite a lot of money on a lawyer only to be left with a large legal bill.

Any reason why you couldn't have just taken the carpet out of the boot and washed the adhesive off ? IIRC it comes out with a bit of scrubbing even when it has dried.
