The most alarming thing about modernity is that that bloody woman is in charge of our security services.

She thought being Home Secretary meant just a bit of dusting and cleaning up at number 10, she didn't know it would involve all political and gubberment duties as well.

Surely the solution to a "dirty bomb" is to wipe correctly?

"These are: the al Qaida leadership, terrorist groups affiliated to al Qaida..."

Are there tax benefits or something from being an "affiliated terrorist group" rather than part of the main group itself?

Wonder if there's a TUPE process or something later on down the line.

FWIW surely she's right, a "dirty bomb" is more likely nowadays and the transfer of knowledge is incredibly fast in the modern age. Don't particularly see this as alarming or new news tbh.

Don't forget teh 80,000 people being trained to respond to terrorist threats.

If only those damned terrorists would get their lazy butts out of the cave and make some propeer threats the government wouldn't have to keep making up these stories. Damned inconsiderate I say.*

*That was a joke by the way - I don't really want to be bombed. Thanks x

wow, a dirty bomb. How awful to use a device that will kill no more people than an ordinary bomb, and that will require a bit of washing down for a few days.

How scary is that?

I'll never understand why these terrorists don't simply nick a petrol tanker and set it ablaze on the M5/M6 interchange. If you want damage, there's the spot.

At least the repairs would get done this time.

I shudder to think what the retaliation from the US would be of, say a dirty bomb in New York.. let alone a full nuclear blast, like they seem to be inferring...

That woman is too stupid to be able to make any of this up. It is all just channeled through her by Labour command.

I believe the 60,000 or so people they have talked about giving "Anti-Terroist training" to includes Shopping Centre Security staff....!

Having seen a few of those I'm not sure how effective they'd be ! (slightly elderly, overweight, sneaking a quick fag by the back door etc)

Not exactly intimidating as "security".

wink

How many people have Al Qaeda (sp?) actually killed in Great Britain? How many people did the IRA kill? Why didn't we need these controls when the IRA were doing a good job of terrorism?

I know the answers too all of this, it is just annoying. In fact, it is more than annoying, we need to get rid of this government and have a return to common sense.

Is it only me that thinks that if terrorists really wanted to create havoc in this country, that there isn't much stopping them? If the terrorist groups really are as fragmented as the government suggests, then why aren't there more instances of these guys trying to do really bad things - like what that school kid in germany did?

Maybe because they don't exist?

Al Qaeda was the name of the database the CIA used to log fighters trained in Afghanistan to fight the Soviets?

'Power of Nightmares', good BBC programme if you can find it.

Funny how this news popped up on the same day as the announcement that inflation has fallen to 0% in some measures, and there is a very real risk of deflation.
