Right so I apologise firstly if anyone gets bored of self pity threads or thinks im moaning but i've finally managed to admit, I have absolutely no fking clue or direction in my life, And this is my first new thread (i think)

A bit of background:

Left school at 17 with 14 GCSE's, had started IB course but left to join my parents transport company and also due to pretty much thinking "Why the fk am I here, i don't actually want to do anything at uni " Probably a bit of a naive statement thinking back to it now,

Pottered around at work making excuses for a while looking for another job, or contemplating staying on, also contemplating the army,

Eventually I got bored and jacked it all in and went backpacking for 6 months,

That did me for a while but since i've been back, a lot more opportunities have arisen, the main one is stay on at work, get in the trucks for 3 years or so, then move on to the office then with necessary experience, running the show hopefully. its a small business but has potential for growth, and i love the work, sadly, id be stuck in my less than brilliant home town for the rest of my life, doing the job thats slowly killing my parents from stress, but it is good money, and an opportunity i wont get again,

The other choices are : A technician apprenticeship aboard oil rigs, shed load of cash, the work style suits me, the hours suit me (weeks on and off at home) but the time away from a solid home might get to me.

Joining the army, well lack of fitness slows me here but nothing that cant be changed with enough effort, the lust for adventure gets really satisfied here! but sadly the pay doesn't really inspire! Maybe have to ignore the pay and opt for the lifestyle,

Just applied with NATS as an ATC controller, a bit random ill admit, but i like the idea of the work, the pay suits me and the job security suits me aswell, although it could get just as boring as staying on at work,

Apart from that I'm buggered, if anyones got any other job ideas please do tell...

Now really I'm asking as I've asked everyone (and yes it has got fking annoying to them!) what the bloody hell do i do? i really am stuck! everything seems to balance out in my eyes, i fear i may end up doing something because its the only option left! I also know I'm not in exactly the worst position ever wink, i was just hoping someone a bit wiser and more enlightened could offer some inspirational advice!

Im in the same place as you, but ive only got 11 gcses, 2 crap a levels, and erm, 3 years since then have just been working to pay for my car.

My plan is to aim for something really stupid, like go into space.

Yeah that should keep me busy for a few years.

fk my life.

Go join Camp America and become a modern day Peter Pan and inspiration to hundreds of spoilt children for generations to come whilst hanging out the back of a fresh batch of Aussie working-visa chicks every summer.

Just a thought.

I could have written the exact same thread, that's how similar my situation is to yours.

But no forum is going to fix it, and I think I have realised that.

Yeh i know its not going to solve the problem, just thought id vent a little bit as its wearing a little thin on everyone else now wink

So far the ideas are: Space man, Racing Driver or hanging out of Australian women while being the Pied Piper,

I like where this is going.

Go to uni. Meet new people and hang out of the back of some of them.

You have got to go for what drives you and gives you the most fulfillment.Sounds easy doesnt it but it aint.Surely your parents want the best for you so dont just take that job out of obigation. You seem to be a young guy and have a full life ahead of you so dont worry too much about making mistakes use each one as an experience and move on.

Just an opinion wishing you the best.

Quite correct.

But, a pointer that may help the thought process is to think about what it is that really motivates you to get out of bed. It's a multiple choice with two possible answers:

A) To go and earn loads and loads of cash
B) To go and do something that you like doing so you feel that you're achieving something.

Rarely do the two go hand in hand at the beginning but in my experience and many others I know, starting off with B, usually ends at A.

Get a mate to kick you in the bks.

For half an hour at least, it'll put life into perspective.

As for 'What do I do?', I've been working for almost 20 years and still don't know what I really want to do, just seems my current career suits me for now.

I think, your realisation that life is hard work may have hit you, like it hits us all at your age.

My advice, get more qualification than GCSE's... either that or put your back into something for quite a few years to get to where you 'think' you want to be.

Flaking out isn't an option if you want the real rewards in life, if making lots of dosh was easy - we would all be rich.

Only a few of us are - why is that do you think?

Join the Army and let them beat a sense of direction into you.
The pay is st for regs but if you go for Ammunition Technician or Officer training it gets better. All depends if the lifestyles for you and if you want to go career.
Failing that, train to be a mannequin, good pay and you get to stare a wimmin all day.
