Honest Pint Legislation
Discussion
Washington State is very much into microbreweries and loyalty to one's drinking establishment is robust. This is true in many other states as well. Lately, pint glasses with a thicker bottom on the inside of the glass, robbing 2 ounces from the pint, are making appearances in some bars. These glasses are known as "cheater pints". This has prompted the citizens to cause sponsorship of the "Honest Pint" Act to ensure a pint is 16 ounces. Good to see legislation working for good causes for a change!

Weights and Measures Act 1985
This Act and appropriate Regulations control the sale of certain intoxicating liquor and equipment used in connection with the sale of various alcoholic drinks:
i) Beer & Cider
The beer or cider must be measured and served to the customer in a stamped capacity measure appropriate to the quantity demanded or measured by stamped measuring equipment (e.g. beer meter). Unstamped plastic measures can only be used when the beer or cider has been measured by a stamped beer meter.
When sold free-flow beer and cider must only be sold in the following quantities:
1/3 pint, 1/2 pint or multiples of 1/2 pint
Our problems stem more at the upper end of the glass, in that the head on a pint can be included in the measurement above. The better pubs tend to use oversize pints, with a line for the beer, and an extra half inch for the head, or simply to top the pint up on request, so there is more liquid inside. Often preceded by the drinker's request of "Can I have a Flake in that, please?" You are already being short changed, because a pint is 20 fluid ounces. An American pint being 473.18 ml, and an Imperial one being 568.26 ml.
Perhaps, but we don't wished to have our short pint shortened. Snake the Sniper said:
