Scenario.

Scientists have a tank that you can get into and you go to sleep. While you are asleep you are hooked up to a computer which allows you to live your perfect life. You will never wake up from the machine, so you will die in the tank. But while you are 'living' in the tank you have no concept that you are in the tank. It's just as if you fell asleep one night and you wake up inside the tank in your bed the next morning.

All sensations and experiences you experience inside the tank are as real as a real-life sensation. Once you are in the tank, as far as your concerned, this is real life and it will be your perfect life ( you will grow old and die as if it was a real-life). You will never be disappointed or miserable or depressed, it will just be perfection.

Knowing what you know now, would you get in the tank ?

Personally, I wouldn't. Neither would my friend. However neither of us really know why though.

There is no such thing as a perfect life.

Plus since it is effectively a dream, you wouldn't be interacting with real people (no matter how real it seemed).

Not for me. I'd rather work for a good life, not just dream one.

yes, every experience you experience in the tank is as real - to you - as any real life experience.

It is tricky, I can see the upside but definitely couldn't ever get in the tank.

would there be somebody in there to clean up the "baby batter"? After all in my perfect world, I would work in the porno industry or be Hugh Hefner.

What about if you were born in the tank and unplugged and placed in the real world.

Along with metal dragonflies and slop in a tin bowl for every meal...

Hmmmm. There is a film in there somewhere.
