Afternoon all

Took the plunge and picked up an ipod - all seems good so far. I had a very basic phone before so this is something very different. I do use a blackberry for work and at times the ipod does seem a little too flexible with all it's options.

Anyway....I wonderered if any of the PH massive could help with the following?

I want to be able to watch movies on it, without having to but them from iTunes, I see there are a number of different software systems that can do this. Can anyone recommend one?

Is there a way to have say a picture on the screen, when it's not being used (but unlocked) rather than the home screen with all the different icons.

I looked at the E71, and liked it - it really only came down to the fact there were none in stock. Should I have went for thr Nokia instead?

Cheers

You need to Jailbreak your iphone. Google it. Fairly simple straight forward process.

Allows you to do all sorts of things that apple have restricted.

Yes. ANd if you do that, you're phone will 'brick' itself next time you update.

As an ex-jailbreaker, don't bother.

Yes, you can convert movies - you just need to find a video converter. I use Videora converter, very good quality.

As for the picture background thing, nope - not really. But believe me, you get over it pretty quickly.

MMS and 100 other updates coming in June for free, so hold off until then before doing anything drastic.

Videora is a good app, but I prefer Magic DVD Ripper.

Very easy to use,run the prog, put your DVD in, choose out put form as "iPhone", then leave it running.

When ripping is complete (about 30 mins) you open iTunes and "add file to library" and choose the ripped file.

Job done.

YOu have to pay for Hotmail Plus or some such garbage.

Or do what i did, and open a Gmail account, and set your Hotmail to automatically forward all your emails to it.

Then set up that Gmail account on your iPhone.

then just decide whether you want it to fetch periodically or just when you check it

Hold on what? All you have to do is wait for them to update the unlock/jailbreak software and you just update it and then jailbreak it again :-/ no bricking involved at all. I've gone from the original iphone firmware all the way through to the current 2.2.1 firmware, all unlocked on orange and all jailbroken every time.

Sorry me again...

What is the Server Exchange?

I added hotmail.co.uk and it claims, "Exchange account verification failed"

I think you're using the wrong setup option.

You're using the 'Exchange' setup, when you should be using 'other'.

I've just tried it here and it works fine.

Settings --> Mail, Contacts, Calendars --> Add Account --> Other

Put in your name, hotmail email addy and password.

The iPhone will then connect and fill in the rest for you.

No idea, then.

Are you running the latest iPhone software?
