Have I missed something here?

There are 2 million people unemployed, can't some of the mines open up again. All coal is shipped in, why not just open up some mines?

I was speaking to a man who owns a few and he said all he is doing at the moment is sifting through the slag heaps. He also said he wasn't allowed to open the mines. Why? surely this is just crazy

Most of them have been sealed and the pitheads built over....I suspect they're flooded out too, won't be an easy or cheap option to start again

There are lots of viable ones. All the ones round Yorkshire certainly are, just been told no mining.

Yes my mate just maintains the mine, I think they are waiting for a day when they can restart production. His certainly hasn't produced coal since the early 90s but has quite a workforce on insane amounts of pay.

That's one...considering there were hundreds your use of "all" is a bit of an exaggeration...smile

Do you really want me to list them all?

The fact is he said about 3/4 could be opened easily.
