Britain needs more people like Pablo Mason, he used his initiative and was sacked.
I don't know about you but I'd like to buy the guy a beer!

This is just infuriating!

I will never use Thomas Cook again..never have yet come to think of it!!!

He's got no complaints apparently so why should you worry?

I won't be basing my holiday arrangements around the job prospects (or not) of a man who has an otter glued to his top lip

Yes, he just went to court to defend his job/career & reputation, but hell, he's not worried!
You are so right of course, how did I miss that??

"The panel heard the pilot had already been disciplined for gross misconduct after two separate incidents in 2006, including one in which he stripped to his underwear during an airport security check."

Pablo is a legend, although there are very mixed opinions in the professional community.

So even if they offer a really good holiday, at a really good price, you'd say no on the back of a story you read in the news about a man you don't know? how very queer.

Personally I'd rather my Pilots were as boring and unquestionably competent as possible. Might be a humourless look on it, but they're there to fly the plane, not provide the in flight entertainment or a comedy act in the terminal.

Actually your assumptions regarding my leisure activities are irrelevant, as I haven't booked a package holiday in years, I go off piste as it were...now run along will you, there's a good chap!

Speaking from experience, they do some rather nice holidays you know, I'll be back to check on your thread later though if it's all the same though.

There seems to be some hidden knowledge here judging by this and an earlier poster..any hints as to why Pablo has this reputation?, just out of curiosity you understand!

Well clearly there are no room for "characters" in todays UK. wink

I'm sure he is a jolly nice chap, but the point I was making is that I will use that travel company if they can provide the holiday I want. I will boycott certain organisations if I feel strongly enough about something but I don't feel strongly about this. In fact I would be less likely to use them if he had won!

Basically he always acted like biggles. Some thought that this was good old fashioned eccentric behavior, while others though he was an egotistical loon. The media seemed to love him during GW1, and he was leader of the mission where Nichols and {insert name here} got shot down. He wrote a couple of books soon after as well.

It boils down to whether he was a professional with a good sense of humour, who played a character when needed, or someone with a massive ego who did whatever he wanted. The feeling being that there is no room for the second type of character when you are flying aircraft - people on the wrong side have crashed, and taken good people with them (Bud Holland springs to mind). Opinions always seemed split as to which side of the line Pablo fell.

I think that about sums it up.

He was sacked for ignoring strict rules about access to the flight deck. They're not some obscure by laws but well known and set in stone for all U.K. operators.

Why are you infuriated that someone got sacked for breaking them?

Thomas Cook are a massive operation, they own hotels, cruise ships aircraft and many other smaller companies ranging from villa rentals to boating holidays. Even if you don't book charter holidays you could easily been giving them money.

No problems boycotting Thomas Cook, not because of this story, but because they are utter ste.
